What's a Tesla Referral Code Worth? A 2026 Worked Example

"What's it actually worth?" is the question everyone asks and almost nobody answers with real numbers attached. Here's the arithmetic, worked for three markets, dated July 13, 2026.

United States: 3 months of FSD, priced out

The US/Canada reward is 3 months of free FSD (Supervised). Tesla prices FSD at $99/month, so the trial is worth 3 × $99 = $297 — but only if you'd otherwise have paid for it. If you'd never subscribe to FSD, its value to you personally is closer to zero, even though the sticker value is $297.

United Kingdom: mileage into money

The UK reward is ≈ 650 free Supercharging miles. At roughly 41p/kWh peak Supercharging pricing and about 3.7 miles/kWh, 650 miles of energy costs approximately £67–£72 to buy outright — which is why we quote it as ≈ £67–£72 (illustrative — verify). That's illustrative: Supercharger pricing moves by site and time of day, so treat it as a ceiling, not a guarantee, and re-check current pricing before you count on an exact figure.

Australia: a flat, simple number

Australia is the easiest to price because it's a direct discount: ≈ A$350 off a Model 3 (cash-style). There's no usage assumption needed — it's cash off the Model 3 at the point of sale. The Model Y reward has been intermittent, so it may be $0 depending on when you order.

Germany and France: a reward with no single currency figure

Not every market prices as neatly as the UK's mileage-based figure. Germany's reward is typically 1,000–1,500 km of Supercharging, but Tesla doesn't publish a fixed euro value for that credit — so unlike the UK, we don't force a false-precision number onto it; the honest answer is "check the km shown in your order summary." France is more specific at 1,000 km, but again without a published euro conversion. Where a market doesn't give us a defensible number, we say so instead of guessing one.

Solar isn't left out of the math

The referral program isn't just cars: a solar referral is worth $400 off Solar Panels or Solar Roof — a flat figure like Australia's, with no usage assumption required. If you're weighing whether to use your one available referral on a car order or a solar order, this is the cleanest number on the page to compare against.

The referrer side of the math

If you're the one sharing a code rather than using one, the arithmetic is different again: $250 in Tesla Credits per successful referral, capped at 10 a year, so the realistic ceiling is $2500 — redeemable in the Tesla app for Supercharging, upgrades or merchandise, not withdrawable as cash. That ceiling is the same worldwide; only the buyer-side number changes by country.

Why "worth" is personal, not universal

Line the three buyer numbers up and the US looks biggest on paper. But an FSD trial is worth $297 only to someone who'd pay for FSD; free Supercharging is worth its face value only to someone who Supercharges regularly; a flat discount is worth its number to everyone. Judge the figure against your own driving, not the headline.

That's also why we resist the urge to rank countries by "best reward" anywhere on this site. A UK driver who never road-trips gets full value from 650 free Supercharging miles; a US driver who'd never subscribe to FSD gets closer to zero from a $297 trial despite the bigger sticker number. The worked math above is meant to help you price your own case, not to crown a winner.
