Europe's 2026 registrations diverged sharply by country

France up 86% and Denmark up 52% in July, while Norway fell 97%, Spain 81%, Italy 77% and Sweden 60%. One continent, opposite directions.

July 2026 registrations moved in opposite directions inside one continent: France up about 86% and Denmark up about 52%, while Norway fell about 97%, Spain about 81%, Italy about 77% and Sweden about 60%. For a referral directory, divergence is more informative than any average. Dated 2 September 2026.

Why an average would mislead

Because "Europe" is not a market. August 2026 saw EU registrations down about 37% year on year and the wider European region down about 22% — figures that describe a group containing both a market up 86% and one down 97% in the previous month. Any referral conclusion drawn from the aggregate applies to no individual country.

What divergence does to a referrer

It changes which constraint binds. In a market with rising volume, a referrer with a public code approaches the ten-per-calendar-year cap, and the extension rule keeps credits alive automatically. In a market where volume has collapsed, referrals arrive rarely, the cap is irrelevant, and every balance runs its full twelve months before expiring.

Same programme terms, opposite practical problems — which is the case for the country-by-country treatment in the extension rule.

What it does not change

The reward. Mainland Europe's roughly 2,000 km and the UK's roughly 650 miles are set by programme terms, not by demand. The 2026 record is explicit on this: the reward doubled in April, in the middle of a year of sharp national declines.

What it does change for a buyer

Availability and Tesla's own offers, which are a different instrument entirely. In a weak market, finance rates, delivery incentives and pricing move — and those are frequently worth multiples of a referral benefit, with their own terms deciding whether they combine with anything.

The reader risk in a soft market

Referral pages proliferate when buyers become scarce, and the incentive runs toward overstatement: mainland figures on UK pages, a US trial promised to European buyers, incentives quoted that a manufacturer is not eligible for. The defence is the same set of checks this atlas applies to itself — is the claim dated, does it name a market, does it use that market's unit.

What divergence means for this atlas's own method

It is the reason each market has its own page with its own sources rather than a shared template with a swapped currency. A single European figure would have been wrong in both directions during 2026: too low for a mainland buyer after April's doubling, too high for a UK buyer at any point in the year. Divergence is not an inconvenience for a country-organised site; it is the argument for one.

The country-first conclusion

Read your own market and ignore the continent. Every figure this site publishes sits on a country page with its own sources, and the figure that governs your order sits on the order summary before you pay.
