Tesla Solar Referral’s $400 Isn’t Tied to Any Car Model
A solar or Powerwall referral saves $400, separate from vehicle-model eligibility and the unrelated $500 Powerwall 3 rebate. How the figures don’t overlap.
The model-eligibility question everyone asks about a Tesla referral code is "does my car qualify?" For this benefit, that's the wrong question. A $400 discount here has nothing to do with which Model 3, Model Y or Cybertruck configuration you're ordering — it's a solar and Powerwall benefit, sitting on a completely separate eligibility list from any vehicle. Dated July 13, 2026.
What actually triggers the $400
Apply a referral code to a Solar Panel, Solar Roof or Powerwall order and it takes $400 off that purchase. There's no vehicle model in that sentence at all — no Model 3, Model Y or Cybertruck trim to check against. If you're cross-referencing this against our vehicle eligibility table, stop: that's the wrong table for this benefit.
The referrer side: $250 in credits, capped at 10 a year
On the other side of the same order, the person whose code you used earns $250 in Tesla Credits — arriving as Tesla Credits, not cash, exactly as it does for a vehicle referral. Tesla caps that at 10 successful referrals per calendar year, again matching the vehicle-referral cap already documented on this site. A solar referral and a vehicle referral each count toward that same annual cap.
Don't confuse it with the separate $500 Powerwall 3 rebate
A second, unrelated number is circulating alongside this one: a $500 rebate per Powerwall 3 installed, which also applies to Powerwall 3 Expansion units. That rebate isn't a referral benefit — it's paid per unit installed, needs no code, and stacks independently of whether a referral was used on the same order. Two different figures, two different triggers. Don't let $400 and $500 being close together make you assume one implies the other.
What this changes for a buyer or referrer
If you're ordering solar or a Powerwall, the model-eligibility questions that matter for a car — which trim, which market, which reward type — simply don't apply here. Click a referral link before you configure, and the $400 shows up on the order regardless of what Tesla vehicle, if any, you also own or plan to buy. If you're separately adding Powerwall 3 units, check the $500-per-unit rebate on its own terms; it isn't larger or smaller because a referral was also used on the same project.
What it doesn't change
It doesn't touch vehicle-referral eligibility, and it doesn't bring Model S or Model X back into the referral program — that removal, in March 2026, was specific to vehicles. A car order and a solar order remain separate transactions, each able to carry its own referral.
Benefits described here arrive as Tesla Credits, not cash, and figures are cross-checked against the sources below — re-confirm at checkout, since program terms have moved before.
FAQ
Does the $400 solar/Powerwall referral depend on which Tesla model I own or order?
No. It applies to a Solar Panel, Solar Roof or Powerwall order and has no connection to any vehicle model, trim or market-specific reward.
Is the $500 Powerwall 3 rebate the same thing as the referral discount?
No — they're separate. The $500 figure is a rebate per Powerwall 3 (including Expansion units) installed, and doesn't require a referral code. The $400 figure is what a referral code takes off a solar/Powerwall order. Both can apply to the same project without one changing the other.
