Every other post on this site is written for the buyer clicking a link. This one is for the owner handing one out — the exact steps I give friends who ask "how do I actually send you my code?", dated July 13, 2026.

Step 1 — Find your link in the Tesla app, not your account settings

Open the Tesla app, tap your profile in the corner, then look for Refer & Earn — Tesla has also shown this as a "Loot Box" screen in some app versions. Your personal code and its ready-made ts.la/… link both live there. It isn't buried in account settings or on tesla.com's main site; it's an app-only screen tied to your ownership.

Step 2 — Copy the link itself, not just the code

The app gives you both a short code and a full link. Send the link where you can — a tapped link removes any chance of a friend mistyping a character, which is the single most common way a referral silently fails to attach. Keep the raw code as a backup for anyone who'd rather paste it manually into the Referral Code field.

Step 3 — Say what the link actually does before you send it

I tell every friend two things in the same message: this gets you Tesla's own referral benefit at no cost to you, and if you order through it I may receive Tesla Credits under Tesla's program. That's the same disclosure this site puts on every link it publishes, and it costs nothing to extend the same honesty to a text message. Nobody needs to guess what a link "does" before they click it.

Step 4 — Track your count against the yearly cap

Owners are capped at 10 successful referrals per calendar year for the $250-credit reward. The Refer & Earn screen shows your running total for the current year — check it before you assume you have room left, especially late in the year when a referral that would push you over the cap is better pointed at a friend who won't order until January.

Step 5 — What you'll actually see when someone orders

You'll see that a referral succeeded and your credit balance update. You won't see your friend's configuration, price, or delivery details — Tesla doesn't expose a buyer's order to the referring owner, only the fact that the referral counted. That's worth saying out loud to whoever you're sharing with, since a few people assume sharing a link means handing over their order details too. It doesn't.

A dated worked example

Today, July 13, 2026, imagine an owner with three friends mid-configuration: one in the US, one in Germany, one in Australia. The owner sends the same personal link to all three. Each friend gets their own market's benefit — the US friend an FSD trial, the German friend Supercharging credit, the Australian friend a cash-style discount — and if all three orders complete, the owner has used 3 of their 10 slots for the year, for up to $750 in Tesla Credits. One link, three completely different buyer outcomes, one shared cap.
