Referral & Loyalty Changes: What Cybertruck Buyers Need

Cybertruck buyers have a narrower version of the March 2026 referral-and-loyalty story than most coverage spells out. Here's what actually changed for this specific model, dated July 13, 2026.

The Cybertruck's eligibility didn't disappear — it narrowed

The March 2026 overhaul removed Model S and Model X from the referral program entirely. The Cybertruck wasn't removed, but it was never fully in to begin with: only Premium AWD and Cyberbeast configurations qualify for the referral FSD trial; Dual-Motor AWD is excluded. If you're comparing trims, that distinction now matters twice as much as it used to, since so many other referral-eligible vehicles (Model S, Model X) have been removed outright — Cybertruck buyers need to get their own trim-level eligibility right, not just their model.

Trading in from an S or X into a Cybertruck

This is the scenario the March 2026 changes hit hardest: an existing Model S or Model X owner who trades into a new, referral-eligible Cybertruck configuration now faces two separate reductions at once. Their old model no longer carries any referral benefit if they were somehow still counting on one, and the general loyalty discount for repeat buyers on premium vehicles was cut from $1,000 to $500. Neither figure is a referral perk exactly — the loyalty discount is a distinct program — but both land in the same order summary, and both are smaller than they were before March 2026.

The 12-month credit expiry catches Cybertruck accessory plans

Referral and loyalty credits now expire 12 months after the Grant Date. For a Cybertruck buyer planning to save up Tesla Credits toward accessories, a future upgrade, or Supercharging costs on a vehicle known for higher energy use than a Model 3 or Y, that's a real planning constraint — credits earned from referring friends now need to be spent within a year, not banked indefinitely.

What a Cybertruck buyer should actually check, in order

  1. Confirm your exact configuration is Premium AWD or Cyberbeast — Dual-Motor AWD gets no referral benefit at all.
  2. Click a valid referral link before you configure; it cannot be added after a Reservation Number exists.
  3. If you're trading in an existing Tesla, confirm the current $500 loyalty figure separately from the referral benefit — they're two different line items.
  4. If you plan to refer others yourself once you're an owner, track the 12-month expiry on any credits you earn.
