Tesla Standard Trim FAQ: What Changes, What Doesn't
Model 3 Standard, Model Y Standard — the cheaper trims are real, and readers keep asking whether picking one changes anything about the referral reward. Here's the direct FAQ, dated July 13, 2026.
What is the "Standard" trim, exactly?
Tesla now sells a lower-priced Standard trim alongside the usual Model 3 and Model Y line-up. We have a confirmed price and cut-feature list for the Model 3 Standard below — not yet for the Model Y Standard, so check Tesla's own configurator for that one rather than assume the same list applies. Spec sheets on a new trim are the most likely thing to shift in its first few months.
What did Tesla actually cut on the Model 3 Standard?
Per the reporting in our dated news note, the Standard starts at $38,630 all-in — about $5,500 under the rest of the Model 3 lineup — and drops FM radio, the 8-inch rear touchscreen, ventilated seats, Autosteer, and the frequency-dependent shocks found on pricier trims. Confirm the exact current list in Tesla's own configurator before you order.
The code is in the toolbar above (tap Copy). This referral link opens Tesla's official store with the benefit attached — always confirm it shows in your order summary before you pay. We may earn Tesla Credits; it costs you nothing.
Does the lower price shrink my referral reward?
No. The referral reward is a fixed benefit per order, not a percentage of the sticker price. In North America that's 3 months of free FSD (Supervised) worth ≈ $297 (3×$99) on any eligible Model 3 or Model Y trim. Because the dollar amount is fixed while the price is lower, the trial is actually worth a slightly larger share of the purchase price on a Standard — roughly 0.77% of $38,630, versus roughly 0.71% on the pricier $41,630 Model Y Standard RWD. See the full share-of-price math for how that ratio keeps shrinking on costlier trims.
Does losing Autosteer affect the free FSD trial?
This is the one question we can't answer cleanly yet: Tesla hasn't published anything stating whether removing baseline Autosteer changes how the FSD (Supervised) trial functions on a Standard-trim car. If that interaction matters to your decision, ask specifically in the configurator or via Tesla Support before you order rather than assume either way — we'd rather flag an open question than guess at one.
Is a Standard trim still eligible for the referral program at all?
Yes. Both Model 3 and Model Y are listed as "all trims eligible" on our models page — trim never gates referral eligibility for these two. It does for the Cybertruck, where only Premium AWD and Cyberbeast qualify, but that's a separate model, not a Standard-trim question.
Does the lower price change my eligibility for local incentives?
It can help, not hurt. In the US, the federal clean-vehicle credit carries its own MSRP cap among other rules — a lower-priced Standard is more likely to clear that cap comfortably than a loaded trim, though eligibility (and the credit's own future) is contested enough that you should confirm current status before relying on it. Outside North America, where the referral reward is Supercharging credit rather than FSD, the reward doesn't move with trim price at all — it's the same fixed mileage/km figure on Model 3 or Model Y regardless of which trim you configure. Check your country page for the exact figure and its sources.

Questions this raises
Does choosing the Standard trim reduce my Tesla referral reward?
No — the referral reward is a fixed benefit per order (≈ $297 in FSD trial value in North America, or a fixed Supercharging credit in the UK/EU), not a percentage of the trim's price. It's identical on a Standard and a pricier trim.
Is the Model 3 Standard eligible for Tesla's referral program?
Yes — Model 3 is listed as all-trims-eligible for the referral program; trim doesn't gate eligibility the way it does on the Cybertruck.
